US Government Contracts and Streaming Media Conferences Dominate the Lineup
During 2010, the Streaming Learning Center produced ten separate training experiences in the US and abroad, showcasing the organization’s ability to produce custom training focused on streaming production, Final Cut Pro workflows and streaming encoding. The efforts included ten days of primarily on site training for four US government offices, including the Federal Reserve, National Institute of Health, Navy and for civilian contractors at NASA’s John Glenn Research Center.
Training started in Manhattan on March 23, with the Streaming Production and Flash Delivery Workshop co-produced with Lisa Larson-Kelly at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The Streaming Learning Center produced the Streaming Production Track, which included Video Production for Streaming, and Encoding H.264 Video for Flash, i-Pod/Phone/iPad and Silverlight. Streaming Learning Center president Jan Ozer reprised both courses at Streaming Media East in May. Click here for the H.264 handouts, here for Video Production for Streaming. In between, on April 22, Ozer traveled to Federal Reserve of Richmond for a day session on streaming production, which included setting the scene, lighting, audio production and streaming related shooting skills. In June, Ozer presented a day and 1/2 of streaming related training at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. The Agency was transitioning from a Real Networks-based system to Flash, and requested a general introduction to Flash and current practices of streaming producers. In July, Ozer returned to West Bethesda for two days of encoding-related training at the Navy Carderock Division. During the engagement, Ozer helped Carderock fine-tune the encoding settings used for intranet video, and discussed encoding for some highly innovative research projects relating to streaming video.
Ozer presented on H.264 encoding at Streaming Media Europe in London on October, where he also hosted a session on HTML5, which you can view here. Three weeks later, Ozer presented the same course at Streaming Media West in Los Angeles – you can read the course description and download the course materials here. The year culminated with a five-day engagement with Wyle Information Systems, who performs video services on site for NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. Produced in conjunction with Digital Media Academy, the course started by detailing the Final Cut Pro to Compressor workflow, plus producing 24p and interlaced discs with DVD Studio Pro. Then it focused on streaming, with sessions on H.264, Windows Media, producing for iTunes and iDevices, and a short session on producing for adaptive streaming.
