I’m producing a free webinar entitled Replacing Flash with the Media Source Extensions/Encrypted Media Extensions on March 16, at 1:00 PM EST. It’s sponsored by Onstream Media. Here’s the description.
Flash has dominated the streaming media landscape much longer than anticipated because HTML5-based solutions lacked necessities like adaptive streaming, digital rights management, live streaming, close captions, or even true streaming, as HTML5 delivers via progressive download. The Media Source Extensions (MSE) and Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) are HTML5 extensions that deliver all of these features to compatible browsers. Combined with the file format DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), MSE and EME provide a standardized toolset that will finally allow web producers to replace Flash.
In this session, you will learn:
– What MSE and EME are and how they work.
– What DASH is and how it fits in with MSE/EME
– Which browsers and other platforms, like Smart TVs, are supporting MSE, EME and DASH
– Which tools and toolsets are supporting MSE/EME/DASH How soon those delivering premium content can switch over from plug-in-based technologies to these standards.
If you’re considering replacing Flash with HTML5 standards-based technologies, this session details how and when you can do it.
