New FFmpeg resource (and some old ones)

I’m allergic to command-line encoders like FFmpeg, so the Streaming Learning Center blog has very little to offer folks using this encoder when it comes to techniques and command line arguments. I just learned about a new blog entitled ReneVolution which is highly focused on FFmpeg; the link will take you to a post on FFmpeg 2.0 which shipped in July.

The blog was created and is maintained by René Calles, “an experienced video encoding and streaming engineer and passionate developer.” Rene works for Geißendörfer & Leschinsky, a German system vendor for streaming, software development and Internet services, so I’m sure he knows his stuff. If you’re using FFmpeg, check out the blog.

If you’ve read this far, you deserve one more good reference. One of the most experienced and impressive compressionists out there, Fabio Sonnati, has devoted significant time to documenting FFmpeg, which you can read about here. OK, one more, a book entitled FFmpeg Basics: Multimedia handling with a fast audio and video encoder. Click the link to visit the Amazon page for the book.

Between these three resources, you should be able to figure out how to produce excellent quality video with the premiere command line streaming encoding tool.
