 Jan’s recommendations sharply increased the quality of our iPhone app encodes especially, and increased the quality of all of our encodes, Executive Producer.

“We are a video news site that publishes video news segments to the web, an iPhone application, iTunes, social media sites like YouTube and Facebook, and an Intel Atom application for Netbooks.

We hired Jan to take a close, close look at our encodes and improve their quality.  They had been designed by people more familiar with Rhozet than our current Compressor inside of Final Cut Server workflow, and needed an update.  We also wanted to know where our encodes stood in comparison to what other sites were doing.

Jan analyzed each step in our workflow- and worked with our online producer to get our camera and Final Cut Pro settings and figure that in to analysis.  Jan looked at competitive encoding tools and provided examples of each to illustrate their strengths and weaknesses and what would work best for our product.  He also looked at what other sites were doing so we could see where we fit in the market.

He gave us a detailed report for each encode showing what we had been doing vs. what he recommended we do, and explaining why each was better. I found it very helpful. He also got encode presets to us very quickly so that we could test them out and see them in motion in our workflow.
