Multiple Screen Delivery book in iBookstore for $19.99

Just a quick note to let you know that Producing Streaming Video for Multiple Screen Delivery is now available in the iBookstore for $19.99, a savings of $20 over the paper book version. Ever since I saw iBooks Author, I’ve wanted to convert a book over to the rich format, where pictures are in full color and scalable to full screen, links are live and videos play within the book. It’s a great format for instructional books like this one and I’m excited to be able to offer my latest in this digital medium.

I didn’t include a lot of videos in the book for a couple of reasons, including to minimize download and storage size, which is only about 125 MB. The other reason is that to include videos in an iBook, you have to reencode them to a specific format that often would obscure the point I was trying to make with the videos. For example, if two videos illustrated the difference between the Baseline and High profiles, I would have to re-encode both to an iBooks compatible format using the Baseline codec, which would make any comparison worthless. So, there are bit.ly links to comparison videos rather than embedded videos, with several embedded YouTube links to tutorial videos.

The sample chapter, by the way, is a great fundamentals chapter for newbies, covering technology fundamentals like CBR and VBR, I-B and P-frames and the like. It’s a good learning experience and a great way to get a feel for what’s in the book.
